Oh, I'm leaving out a detail. It was a one-hit shut out. (The one hit coming in the fourth inning). On top of that, Niese did not walk anyone and struck out 6. Overall, it was a masterful outing, one that shows that Niese may actually be “getting it” and really is a key portion to this rotation, which still has some question marks. If he can keep this up though, he forms a powerful 1-2-3 with Santana and Pelfrey. R.A. Dickey plays his role as the knuckleballer, leaving the Mets only with one question mark (Lee? Millwood? Gutherie?).
The first game today did not go so well for the Mets as Johan was not sharp, and once again, the Mets offense didn't have the ability to back him up. That game snapped the Mets home win streak, but with the win in the night cap, it does top off a succesful 5-1 Mets homestand, the second straight homestand where the Mets have posted that record on a stand.
The Mets enter a 6 game stretch against two terrible teams and the Mets will look to reverse their road troubles. It's just a really nice, twist (?) to see two Mets starters in three games throw nine innings and show that there are so many different interesting aspects of this fun team to watch.
