Game Preview: Reds vs Mets

Last night was a weird one for the Mets. The game started and it almost immediately started to pour but not before Jason Vargas could get himself into trouble and by the time his line was closed after the delay three of his runners scored. The Mets offense was cold and the only bright spots for the Mets happened in the bullpen with Bashlor having 2 innings of no run baseball and Drew Smith doing the same. Also Nimmo went 2-3 with a walk.

But it’s deGrom day. An early deGrom day. Jacob is 5-7 over 22 games and 146.1 innings with a 1.85 ERA (league leading), 2.28 FIP (league leading), 0.970 WHIP and a 204 ERA+ (league leading) He’s coming off a start against Atlanta where he had to do it all, holding the Braves to 2 runs in 8 innings and pushing the Mets only run of the game across the plate. Last year against the Reds he allowed 4 runs, 3 earned over 6.0 innings and then 2 runs over 6.0 winnings while striking out 10. The Reds have the following numbers against him:

  • Gennett 5-16, 2 2B, HR, BB, 4 K
  • Votto 1-8, BB
  • Suarez 3-7
  • Tucker 0-6
  • Peraza 2-6
  • Schebler 1-4
  • Hamilton 1-4
  • Barnhart 0-1
  • Casali 0-2

The Mets will get to look at the 2018 debut of Robert Stephenson. Last year went 5-6 over 25 games and 11 starts logging 84.1 innings with a 4.68 ERA, 4.92 FIP, 1.583 WHIP and 94 ERA+. He has put up his best season in the minors this year though, posting a 2.87 ERA across 113.0 innings in 20 starts. Against the Mets last year he allowed 2 runs over 6.0 innings off 5 hits and 3 walks. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

  • Conforto 0-2, BB
  • Flores 3-3, 2B
  • Nimmo 1-3
  • Reyes 1-2, 2B
  • Rosario 0-3
  • Bautista 2-2, 2B
