Game Preview: Mets @ Marlins

The good news from yesterday: Herrera hit his first career homer. The bad news from yesterday: the Mets had 6 errors in the field and lost the game 9-6. Today the Mets look to move beyond behind Jon Niese as he takes on Brad Penny in game two of the series.

Niese is 7-10 this season over 25 starts and 155.1 innings with a 3.48 ERA. In his last four starts he has pitched 27.0 innings with a 3.33 ERA. In two starts against the Marlins this year he was 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA over 13.0 innings. The Marlins have the following numbers against Niese:

  • Stanton 9-24, 2 HR
  • R Johnson 9-24, 2B
  • Baker 7-17, 2B
  • McGehee 2-12, 2B
  • Lucas 3-11, 2B
  • Solano 4-11, 2 2B

Brad Penny gets the start for the Marlins tonight, his 5th game of the 2014 season where he has pitched 13.1 innings with a 5.40 ERA. He didn’t pitch in 2013 at all in the majors and in 2012 he pitched 22 games, no starts with a 6.11 ERA for the Giants and in 2011 he had a 5.30 ERA over 31 starts for the Tigers. The Mets have the following numbers against Penny:

  • Wright 13-21, 2B, 4 HR
  • Granderson 4-11, 2B, 3B
  • Tejada 0-2
  • E Young 0-1
