Game Preview: Phillies vs Mets

The Mets and Phillies end their four game set this afternoon as the Phillies look for the series win and the Mets look for the split. Last night Matsuzaka was wild again (except unlike his first start, he was good early and the wheels came off later) and the Mets were not able to recover. Today Carlos Torres gets the start for the Mets as he goes up against rookie Ethan Martin.

Carlos Torres is 2-2 with a 2.96 ERA over 48.2 innings this year with 34 strikeouts. He has 14.0 innings this year as a starter with a 6.43 ERA. In 1.2 innings against the Phillies this year he has allowed 1 ER. The Phillies have the following numbers against Torres:

Rollins 0-2
Ruiz 0-2
Bernadina 0-1
Frandsen 1-1, HR
Mayberry 0-1

Ethan Martin is 2-2 in his first 5 games of his major league career with a 6.33 ERA over 21.1 innings of work. In those innings he’s allowed 25 hits, 15 ER, 13 walks and struck out 23 batters. None of his first five games were against the Mets and he has not faced any Mets while they were with any other teams (which makes sense), so there are no MLB stats against.

Lets Go Mets!
