Game Recap: We Like Ike and Big Pelf

(Mets Merized Online)

The Mets won a really thrilling game tonight. In the first inning the Mets looked like it could be a long night as he struggled in the first inning. However for Pelfrey that was it. He pitched the next 8 innings nearly perfectly and shut down the Padres. It would figure though that the first Mets pitcher who actually pitched 9 innings this season, would not get the complete game as the Mets had to send it to extras. The Mets bullpen was able to hold the game together for two innings as they kept the Padres from touching home as well.

So the pressure then fell on the Mets bats. They were getting hits, stealing bags but they weren't scoring. Reyes hit a late inning homer to tie the game at one. That homer, that had to be reviewed, gave the Mets and Mets fans a lot excitement and brought the atmosphere back in the game. The Mets came close in the 10th with a controversial triple by Bay, but they couldn't get it done.

However things changed in the bottom of the 11th as Ike Davis took the splitter that was thrown over the plate all the way to back of the Pepsi Porch. He crushed the ball. Ike Davis has done a lot for this team, and his 7th homer of the team shows why the youth movement in the National League East is a reason why the division is so exciting.

With this wn the Mets have now won 9 straight at home and 4 straight overall. The Mets go for game two tomorrow night!
