Game Preview: Mets @ Braves

After a tough series against the Braves over last weekend, the Mets responded by winning two games against the Royals despite some fairly major unexpected surprises (Colon for example). Tonight, Matt Harvey has a shot of redemption against the Atlanta squad from his last outing. He’s 4-9 on the year over 14 starts and 79.1 innings with a 4.76 ERA. After three starts where he logged 20.0 innings allowing 2 ER, he allowed 4 ER over 6.0 innings vs the Braves. The Braves have the following numbers against Harvey:

  • Flowers 0-3

The Mets bats will try to get some consistency going against Matt Wisler who is 3-7 over 14 games and 13 starts this season with a 4.23 ERA while pitching 83.0 innings. He opened up June to two horrid starts that saw him allowing 13 ER over 8.0 innings, in his last start he settled down to 2 ER over 8 hits in 6.2 innings of work. His best start of the season by far was against the Mets at the start of May where he held the Mets to one hit and two walks over 8.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Matt:

  • Granderson 1-12
  • Cespedes 2-9, 2B

Game Preview: Royals vs Mets

Last night was an odd one, but we won, so everything is good! Syndergaard was supposed to start last night but during the day, the Mets switched him and Colon so Noah can get more rest after his amazing outing last time out. Things weren’t so good for Colon as he had to leave the game almost immediately last night after being hit by a comebacker. The Mets bullpen held on though!

Syndergaard is 7-2 on the year over 14 games and 13 starts pitching 85.0 innings with 106 strikeouts while posting an ERA of 1.91. He’s coming off of his best start this season where he pitched 8.1 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned while striking out 11 (he didn’t allow the urns until the 9th). His first start of the season was against the Royals where he held them scoreless over 6.0 innings while striking out 9. The Royals have the following numbers against Syndergaard:

  • Cain 2-6
  • Escobar 2-6, 3B
  • Hosmer 0-5
  • Perez 1-4

Dan Duffy gets the nod for the Royals. He’s 2-1 over 23 games and 7 starts this year with a 3.17 ERA and 54.0 innings. He’s 2-1 over his last 5 starts while logging 28.2 innings with a 4.08 ERA. His first outing of the year was against the Mets where he allowed one hit and a walk over 1.2 innings of relief work. The Mets have the following numbers against Duffy:

  • Cabrera 4-10, 2B
  • Granderson 1-8
  • Cespedes 0-5
  • Conforto 1-2, HR
  • Rivera 0-2

The Mets dropped their third game in a row last night as they were shutout out 4-0 against the Pirates. Tonight they look to get back on the right track behind their source of thunder: Noah Syndergaard. Thor is 6-2 over 13 games and 12 starts and 76.2 innings with 95 K’s and a 2.00 ERA this season. In the month of June he has tossed 13.0 innings allowing 5 runs, 4 earned including his last start against the Pirates where he allowed 3 runs, 2 earned over 6.0 innings with 5 K’s in a game the Mets eventually won. The Pirates have the following numbers against Syndergaard:

The Mets bats will take a crack at Jeff Locke who is 5-4 over 12 starts and 72.0 innings with a 5.83 ERA this season. The former All-Star has been mostly average or better in games pitched this year, except one start in each month where things melted down to catastrophic levels. In April he allowed 8 runs over 3.0 innings, in May he allowed 6 over 5.1 (not so bad) and in his last start he allowed 11 runs over 4.2 innings which raised his ERA from 4.28 to 5.38. Game Preview: Pirates vs Mets

The Mets started off well in Milwaukee but ended on a whimper after a forgettable game in the broiling Sun on Saturday and an error filled affair on Sunday. The Mets mounted a comeback attempt late on Sunday’s game but it was too late. Focusing on today, the Pirates have yet to announce a starting pitcher for tonight. My gut right now says its going to Jameson Taillon, who is supposed to start in Indy tonight, so I’m writing this game preview for him, knowing it may be wrong.

What is for sure is Jacob deGrom will be on the hill for the Mets. Jacob is 3-2 over 10 games and 61.0 innings with a 2.80 ERA. He is coming off of an average start against the Pirates where he allowed 3 ER over 6.0 innings with 9 K’s (it’s a bit odd calling that average, but its really about the runs. 9 K’s were the second most he recorded all season). The Pirates have the following numbers against Jacob:

  • McCutchen 3-8
  • Mercer 2-8
  • Jaso 1-6, 2B
  • Polanco 0-5
  • Harrison 0-5, 3 K
  • Joynce 0-3, 3 K
  • Marte 0-2

Jameson Taillon may make the start for the Pirates tonight. He made his major league debut against the Mets last week and was sent down after the game. In that start he allowed 3 ER over 6.0 innings while walking 2 and striking out 3. The Mets have the following numbers against Jameson:

  • Cabrera 1-3, 2B
  • Cespedes 1-3
  • Confort0 0-1, RBI, BB
  • De Aza 0-2
  • Loney 1-3
  • Walker 0-2
  • Syndergaard 1-2, 2B

Game Preview: Mets @ Brewers

Yesterday was forgettable, so lets forget it.

Logan Verrett made the spot start and after the Mets went up quickly 2-0, things started to fall apart as the Brewers went on a homer launching spree. Oh well. Steven Matz will try to take the series from the Brew Crew for the Orange and Blue Crew today. Matz is 7-2 over 10 starts and 60.1 innings this year with a 2.39 ERA. His last two starts have been shorter for Matz as he has allowed 10.2 innings and 14 hits with 5 runs, 3 earned while striking out 11. He faced the Brewers earlier this season allowing 2 ER over 7.0 innings while striking out 8. The Brewers have the following numbers against him:

  • Carter 1-3, HR
  • Hill 0-3
  • Lucroy 0-3
  • Perez 1-3
  • Cillar 1-3
  • Broxton 0-2
  • Captain Kirk 0-2

Zach Davies is 4-3 over 10 games and 56.2 innings with a 4.29 ERA. He’s been quite good in June going 15.0 innings with 2 ER and 14 K’s. His start against the Mets was forgettable as he allowed allowed 4 ER over 5.1 innings, in a game the Mets eventually lost. The Mets have the following numbers against Zach:

  • Walker 0-5
  • Cespedes 2-3, HR
  • Conforto 1-2, 2B
  • Granderson 1-3, HR
  • Cabrera 1-2
  • Plawecki 0-2
