The Mets lost back to back games to the Braves yesterday and both the Giants and Cardinals won, so now there is a three way tie for the first Wild Card spot in the National League. The Mets are hoping to distance themselves in a positive way starting tonight with Bartolo Colon on the hill.

Bartolo Colon is looking for win 15 on the season. So far he is 14-7 over 31 games and 30 starts with 177.2 innings of work with a 3.14 ERA. Noah Syndergaard looks to keep it going tonight as the Mets welcome the Braves to Queens.

Syndergaard is 13-8 over 29 games and 28 starts over 174.0 innings with a 2.43 ERA. The Mets go for the sweep of the Twins today as Gabriel Ynoa makes his first major league start. Last night the Mets went to extras and it was Granderson who made the different hitting a walk-off homer. With the Cardinals beating the Giants last night at about the same time, the Mets now have a two game lead in the chase against the Cardinals and tied for the first spot with the Giants. Originally deGrom was supposed to make today’s start but he’s been sidelined for the rest of the season.

Ynoa has pitched in 6 games so far this season totaling 5.1 innings allowing 9 runs and 4 walks. In Las Vegas this year he went 12-5 over 25 starts and 154.1 innings with a 3.97 ERA, which is impressive when you remember how hitter friendly Las Vegas is.

The Mets bats draw Kyle Gibson who is 6-9 over 22 starts and 131.0 innings this season with a 5.08 ERA. The Mets beat the Twins last night behind an amazing start from Bartolo Colon and back to back jacks by Reyes and Cabrera. Meanwhile, the two teams on the Mets radar for the Wild Card, the Giants and Cardinals, are playing each other. Tonight the Mets look to keep it going behind Seth Lugo.

Seth Lugo is 4-2 over 14 games and 5 starts and 48.2 innings with a 2.40 ERA. In his last four starts he has tossed 25.0 innings with a 4-0 record and a 1.80 ERA. The Mets need another, now typical, Lugo start tonight as they look to capitalize on the Giants playing the Cardinals. The Mets offense took off yesterday as the Amazin’s took back the wild card in their last game ever at Turner Field. Now the Mets look to most difficult on paper three games left of their schedule against the Nationals. The offense yesterday was mostly courtesy of Cespedes’ 30th homer of the season, a grand slam, plus the Mets got an outstanding start from Seth Lugo.

Tonight the Mets turn to Rafael Montero to hold it down in DC. He has yet to record a decision in 4 games and 2 starts this season with a 4.63 ERA over 11.2 innings with 11 walks and 10 K’s. His last time out he allowed 3 ER over 4.1 innings with 4 walks against the Reds, in a game the Mets eventually won 5-3. Against the Nationals last year he allowed 1 hit and no runs in 2.0 innings of work. The Nationals have the following numbers against Montero:

The Mets lost in extra innings last night and the Cardinals gained ground. But that’s why this is a race! It shouldn’t be a smooth last three weeks of the season, it never is. For some reason, the only team that former Met John Gant can dominate, is the New York Mets. Anyway, the Mets look to put everything back together.

Today it is on Seth Lugo to keep pushing in the right direction. He’s 3-2 over 13 games and 4 starts with an ERA of 2.38. He’s 3-0 in his last three starts and has pitched 18.0 innings with a 1.50 ERA while striking out 13. This will be his first start against the Braves and his first time facing anyone on the Braves roster.

The Mets will have to deal with Williams Perez who is 2-2 over 10 starts and 51.0 innings and a 5.47 ERA. When he came back to the majors in September, he struggled in 2.1 innings allowing 8 hits and 6 ER. The Mets Magic continued last night in Atlanta! The Mets found themselves down 4-0 when Curtis Granderson went yard in his 4th straight game to bring the score to 4-2. Then in the 8th, the Mets were able to stage a 4 run rally and hold it to beat the Braves 6-4 and maintain their wild card spot. The Giants, Cardinals, Marlins and Nationals all won yesterday so all races stayed the same.

Bartolo takes the mound with a 13-7 record over 29 games and 28 starts and 164.2 innings of work with a 3.22 ERA. In his last two starts he has tossed 13.0 innings, allowing 2 runs, 1 earned and he has recorded a win in three of his last four starts (one no-decision). The Mets have won his last four starts.
