Like a good chunk of you out in Mets land, I didn’t watch last night’s game (9:40 start time? How about 9:35 bed time). If you’re like me, you missed a good one last night as the Mets offense finally broke up open and the Mets beat the Dbacks. The game included another homer from Noah Syndergaard, a homer to hopefully help break out Kelly Johnson, a Granderson RBI, TJ Rivera going 4-4 and Familia recording his 40th save of the season.
Today opens an interesting chapter in Mets lore as Jon Niese will be making his 2016 rotation debut for the Mets. With the Mets so far this season he has allowed 7 ER over 8 hits and 6.0 innings and overall on the season he has posted a 5.20 ERA over 116.0 innings. Against the Diamondbacks this year Niese has allowed 10 ER over 7.0 innings. Arizona has the following numbers against him:
- Bourn 9-25, 2B
- Weeks 4-14, 2B, HR
- Castillo 4-16, 2 HR
- Goldschmidt 3-13, HR
- Segura 5-14
- Gosselin 1-9
- Owings 4-8, 2B, 2 3B
- Tomas 4-9, 2 2B
The Mets bats will get a look at Zack Godley tonight who is 3-2 over 13 games and 6 starts this season posting a 5.24 ERA over 44.2 innings. After a difficult stretch of starts where he had a 6.18 ERA allowing 20 runs, 19 earned, over 27.2 innings and 5 games, he went back to the pen with two solid outings including a clean inning of work against the Mets. His last time out he worked for a while out of the pen, 5.1 innings, holding the Red Sox to 2 hits and 1 ER. The Mets have the following numbers against him:
- Bruce 1-3
- Kelly 0-1
- R Rivera 0-1
Let’s Go Mets!
