The Mets have gone west, or as I call it “eh, the week where I’ll probably read about the Mets game in the morning” and they left on a bang! The Mets were completely on yesterday smashing homers, including two from Lucas Duda, and a dazzling outing from Steven Matz that had him slicing and dicing the Atlanta lineup. Today Jacob deGrom looks to keep that going in one of the most beautiful cities in the United States.
Jacob is 3-0 in as many starts this season with a 1.02 ERA over 17.2 innings while walking 4 and striking out 14. His last outing was his first scoreless one on the season as he held the Giants to 0’s over 6.0 innings despite walking 4 of them. Last year he had one start against the Padres and it was a great one as he held them scoreless over 8.0 innings while allowing only 2 hits, no walks and recording 8 K’s. The Padres have the following numbers against Jacob:
- Kemp 2-8, 2B
- Upton 3-6
- Bethancourt 0-7
- Jay 2-2, 2B
The Mets bats will get a crack at Colin Rea today. Colin is 2-1 over 6 games and 5 starts this year logging 27.1 innings of work with an ERA of 4.61 while walking 13 and striking out 22. He’s pitched in as many games this year as he did last year, when he made his major league debut. He’s been better than his numbers suggest because his first start was a disastrous 5 ER, 3.1 inning affair. Since then he has pitched 23.0 innings in 4 starts with a 3.13 ERA. This will be his first career start against the Mets and no one on the Mets roster faced him last year as members of other teams.
Let’s Go Mets!
