Memorabilia Monday: Marty Markowitz

Sometimes there are promotions that make you stop in your tracks and wonder for a little bit. The Brooklyn Cyclones historically have been one of the best franchises in terms of their creative give-aways (which tend to dominate the minor league promotion previews every month here on this site). The Cyclones move away from common shirts, player bobbleheads and magnets and think of some really outside the box items, such as this week's Memorabilia Monday (via a giveaway a few seasons ago) of Marty Markowitz:

When it comes to local politics I am generally lost. It's not that I don't follow the news (I read the New York Times pretty much daily and try to keep up with what's going on in the world) but its more due to my not staying in one location long. In the last year I have lived in three different counties in Maryland with drastically different local news/elected officials coverage. That being said, I have no cluse about what is going in New York Boroughs. I was at the game when this bobblehead was being given out and I had no idea it was a bobblehead night. So pleasently surprised when I arrived at the park, I opened the box and said (apparently loudly), “Nice, Who's Marty Markowitz?” That caused a Brooklyn native to turnaround and exclaim, “You don't know who Marty Markowitz is? He's the great President of the great borough of Brooklyn!” (In a flawless Brooklyn accent). We talked for a bit, I explained that I was from Baltimore (helped by my absence of any Northern accent) and parted ways.

I think promotions like these are great because they are so unusual. Unusual generally equals special. This is just a great example of the way that the Cyclones work and I have a feeling during the course of this weekly addition you will see a lot more items showcased via the Brooklyn Cyclones.
