The Mets end their two game set with the Nationals tonight as they try to avoid the two game sweep. Last night was a rough night for the Mets as they pulled two feats (by Pagan basically – inside the park homer and a triple play) but still ended up losing the game. Tonight the Mets will try to ralley behind Maine and handle the Nationals starter, Atilano.
Maine (1-3, 6.13) slipped up in his last outing. Prior to that, he was really starting to come around but he had some problems against the Marlins as he allowed 6 ER over 5 innings. He faced the Nationals two starts ago where he pitched 6 innings, allowed 2 ER and struck out 5 as the Mets lost anyway. The Nationals have these numbers against the Maine event:
Dunn 2-12, HR
Guzman 0-13
Willingham 2-13
Atilano was Maine's opponent last time these teams faced eachother and he turned out a great performance lasting 5 innings keeping the Mets scoreless. His other two starts in his last three were not as pretty as his ERA over his last three games is 5.17. Hopefully now the Mets have seen him once, they will be able to handle him better tonight. The Mets have these numbers against Atilano:
Pagan 1-3
Reyes 1-3
Barajas 1-2, 2B
Wright 1-3
Lets Go Mets!
