Game Preview: Mets @ Cardinals

Tonight the first place New York Mets take on the first place St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets are coming off five consecutive series wins, including taking three of four games from the San Francisco Giants. Now the Mets get their second tough test of the young season.

The five consecutive series wins for the Mets ties the record for the club set by the 2018 team. Anecdotally, the Mets have felt in the games they’ve lost this year, clawing back leads and creating moments late in the game.

Max Scherzer will make his fourth start of the season today. In his first three starts he has tossed 18 innings allowing five runs from 9 hits and seven walks while striking out 23. He has a 2.50 ERA, 2.59 FIP, 0.889 WHIP and a 150 ERA+. In two starts against the Cardinals last year he pitched 14 innings and allowed only one unearned run from ten hits and a walk while striking out 22. The Mets bats will get a look at Miles Mikolas tonight. In his first three starts he has allowed three runs from 13 hits and three walks over 15 1/3 innings. This equates to a 1.76 ERA, 2.17 FIP, 1.043 WHIP and a 231 ERA+. Mikolas made nine starts last season, totaling 44 2/3 innings, with a 4.23 ERA, 4.40 FIP, 1.209 WHIP and a 92 ERA+.
