Game Preview: Athletics vs Mets

Last night was a game to stick with! Wheeler got off to a bumpy start, allowing 4 runs in the first inning and an additional run in the 2nd. The Mets down 5th, looked doomed for a blowout. But the Mets put together a huge inning late in the game to bring the game to 5-4, then tied it an inning later. Down to their last out, Wilmer Flores played hero punching a solo homer to extend the Mets winning streak to 4 games.

The next challenge for the Mets will be a Rafael Montero start. He is 1-6 this year over 19 games and 5 starts with 45.0 innings of work. Over that time he has posted a 5.40 ERA, 3.39 FIP and an 1.822 WHIP. In his last start he allowed 4 runs, 2 earned over 6.0 innings and 7 hits. The only player on the Athletics roster who has seen Montero in a game is Rajai Davis who is 0-1 against him.

The Mets bats will take a crack at 24 year old rookie, Daniel Gossett. Gossett is 1-5 over 7 starts and 37.1 innings with a 5.79 ERA, 5.88 FIP and 1.366 WHIP. In his last four starts he has allowed 28 hits and 4 walks over 21.1 innings leading to an 0-3 record and 6.75 ERA. Opponents are batting .315 with a .344 OBP in that stretch. Before being called up this year, he was 3-3 in Nashville over 11 starts with a 3.41 ERA.
