The Mets will play another game with the Yankees tonight as they try to do something that has been done once this year: get the Yankees to lose a game that Phil Hughes has started. Last night's game featured great pitching by both sides and also a real lackluster night at the plate. If the Mets want to win tonight, they will have to channel that team that played Thursday night in Washnington.
Mike Pelfrey (5-1, 3.02) will get the nod for the Mets tonight as he will try to build off of his last start where he pitched for 7.2 innings and allowed only 2 ER. Last year he faced the Yankees once picking up the loss in 5 innings of work allowing 2 ER, 4 R total. The Yankees have these career numbers agianst Big Pelf:
Winn 1-10, 2B
Cano 1-6
Arod 2-4
The Mets batters will have figure out Phil Hughes, who has been one of the tougher starters in the rotation for the Yankees this year. He has made 7 starts, getting the winning decision in 5 of them, not picking up any losing decisions and the Yankees have gone on to win 6 of those 7 starts. Overall he has pitched 44 innings this year and has an ERA of 2.25. Last season he pitched 2.1 scoreless innings agianst the Amazins. The Mets have been able to put these numbers on Hughes:
Barajas 0-2
Castillo 0-1
In other words these current Mets really have not seen much of Hughes at all. It will be interesting to see how the Amazin's bounce back tonight. Lets go Mets!
