Its almost the end of May which brings with it the Interleague Play preview weekend. Here, teams will play teams from other leagues just for the weekend, as taste of what will happen in June. Looking through the schedule for this weekend, it feels a bit strange. The only part of interleague that most fans like (myself included) are the regional matchups. However, this weekend, some of the normal regional matchus are not occuring. The reasoing, at least from the MLB PR machine, is that they want to get teams into unusual places. Anyway here are the matches for this weekend:
Baltimore @ Washington [Battle of the Beltway]
Boston @ Philly [Battle of Which City Is Hated More]
Cinncinnatti @ Cleveland [Battle Ohio]
Chicago (NL) @ Texas [But Chicago/Chicago is fun to watch….]
Tampa Bay @ Houston [But Texas/Houston….that state loves Baseball]
Colorado @ Kansas City [Well KC usually is in the I-70 series, you can get to Colorado via I-70]
Florida @ Chicago (AL) [what?]
Brewers @ Minnesota [Makes Sense]
LA (AL) @ St. Louis [?]
Toronoto @ Arizona [Insert Anti Arizona Immigration Law Joke Here]
San Fran @ Oakland [Bay Bridge Battle]
Detroit @ LA (NL) [?]
San Diego @ Seattle
So out of the above, obviously I will be most interested in the Subway Series, but thats because I'm a Mets fan, and actually the series is important for both teams to make a statement. The Battle of the Beltways should be more interesting as it will be the first time the Nationals, as a good team, plays the Orioles. A rivalry might actually exist this year.
For the most part though, it just feels like a normal baseball weekend.
