Game 46 Preview

The Mets will try to get back on the right track, get back to .500, and get back to sanity tonight as they take on the Colorado Rockies, who are on a 2 game losing streak right now. Both teams are 3-7 in their last 10 and both teams need to win this series this weekend. Tonight Oliver Perez will take the mound for the Mets and he will be facing off against rookie Greg Reynolds.
Greg Reynolds is a right handed pitcher thats is only 22 years old. So far this season, he has an 0-1 record in 2 games and has pitched 11.2 innings with a 3.09 ERA. In his first start at San Diego, he gave up 4 runs over 5.2 innings, walked 2 and struck out one. In his most recent start, he pitched 6 innings, allowed no runs, walked two and struck out 2. Right handed hitters are hitting .192 against him and left handed hitters are batting .222.
In the minors this season, Reynolds had a 4.86 ERA over 33.1 innings and a 1-2 record to go with that.
Perez will try to be the hero for the Mets tonight. His last start was the same time the Mets last won a game (which is really depressing to say). Perez pitched two games in Colorado in 2006 (no games against Colorado in 2007). He was not very effective in either game. In five innings, he allowed 16 runs, walked 6, and struck out 2. The Rockies have put up these numbers against Perez:
    Helton 4-17
    Holliday 2-11, HR
    Atkins 3-6, HR, 2B
    Taveras 0-8
When I read his lines against Colorado in 2006, I was expecting much worse numbers than what was shown above. Atkins and Torrebella are the two guys who really did damage to him in that stretch (Torrebella 2-5, 4 RBI's, still on the Rockies now). So if Perez can put that behind him, if the Mets can put that past series behind them. and if the team comes together, and all of these if's become reality, we can have a really good weekend. If these if's don't happen, then I will not be watching ESPN for a long time.
Lets Go Mets!
