Well last night was, interesting.

The game started off with a beautiful ceremony to recognize the 1986 Mets. Then things went down hill. Syndergaard threw a pitch behind Utley, which is most likely a wild pitch. Under any other circumstance where teams have tension, that would have been a warning to both benches. (No tension, just a mistake, probably not even notable outside of a snide, “Just a bit outside”). However there was an umpire who was inexperienced behind the plate and immediately tossed Syndergaard. I’ve watched a lot of baseball and I’ve never seen such a quick pull of the ejection trigger. Anyway the Dodgers went on to pile up the runs and now the Mets head into the last game against the Dodgers in the regular season tonight.

Bartolo Colon is 4-3 over 10 games and 9 starts with a 55.0 innings with a 3.44 ERA. He is coming off one of his strongest starts of the season after two not so good ones. Last time out he allowed 1 ER over 7.0 innings vs the Nationals. His one start against the Dodgers this year was not so good as he allowed 5 ER over 5 innings. The Mets walked off the Dodgers last night and look to keep rolling tonight. Yesterday Jacob deGrom put together a fantastic outing going 7.0 innings, striking out 7 holding the Dodgers to 1 run. Then Familia allowed 4 runs to blow the save for the first time in a while but it was ok because Curtis Granderson smacked a winning homer in the next inning. Also an important note, David Wright hit a homer for a third consecutive game. Now the Mets look to get to Maeda behind Noah Syndergaard.

Syndergaard is 5-2 over 9 games with 60.1 innings with a 1.94 ERA and 76 K’s. In his last two starts he has allowed 1 run, 0 earned, over 14.0 innings with 21 K’s. His start before that was against the Dodgers where he went 8.0 innings with 2 ER while striking out 6 batters. The Dodgers have the following numbers against Noah:

The Mets come back home after a critical series win in DC. On Wednesday, Steven Matz tossed an absolute gem as he led the Mets 2-0 vs the division leaders, bringing the season series vs the Nationals to an even 3-3. Now the Mets welcome the Dodgers into town for the last time this year (since they already faced them 4 times in LA earlier this month).

The Mets will kick off the series with Jacob deGrom who is 3-1 over 7 games and 41.0 innings with a 3.07 ERA and 30 K’s. May has been rough for Jacob who pitched 23.1 innings with an 0-1 record recording 16 K’s and a 4.63 ERA. One of his best starts this month was against the Dodgers where he allowed 2 ER over 7.0 innings. The Dodgers have the following numbers against Jacob:

The Mets will draw Julio Urias in his major league debut. He’s widely regarded as one of the best pitching prospects in baseball and he’s only 19 years old. In 2014 he posted a 2.36 ERA over 25 games, 20 starts in the minors and last year he registered a 3.81 ERA over 18 starts. This year he has been incredibly posting a 1.10 ERA over 8 games, 7 starts in the incredibly hitter friendly PCL league.

The Mets lost to the Nationals last night, setting up a matinee rubber game today between Steven Matz and Tanner Roark. After drubbing the Nationals Monday night, the Nationals got the better of the Mets last night. A Mets win today will bring the season series between the two clubs to 3-3. Steven Matz is 6-1 over 7 starts and 41.2 innings with 43 K’s with an ERA of 2.81. However, when you take out the first start of the season, he is 6-0 in his last 6 starts with an 1.35 ERA over 40.0 innings with 42 K’s. He’s been a bit more human in his last two starts going 13.0 innings with 4 ER and 13 K’s. This will be Steven Matz’s first start against the Nationals and no one on the Nationals roster has seen him while a member of other teams.

Tanner Roark is 3-3 over 9 starts with 56.0 innings and 2.89 ERA in his return to the rotation this year. He is coming off back to back starts against the Marlins (4 0f his 9 starts are against the Marlins this year), one where he allowed 7 ER over 5.0 innings and one where he allowed 1 ER over 6.2 innings. The Mets got exactly what they needed out of Colon last night to help erase the feelings from the last two games against the Nationals last week. Colon had a strong outing and was backed by a 5-run Mets inning (featuring a 3-run jack from David Wright) and later a homer from Cespedes (who now leads the league). Now the Mets call on Harvey on a day they need him against Strasburg for round 2. In case you haven’t heard yet, tonight is Support Harvey Night hosted by The 7 Line, who are making an emergency trip down 95. Matt is 3-6 over 6 starts and 48.1 innings with a 5.77 ERA. His last outing (against the Nationals) was the worst of the season going 2.2 innings allowing 8 hits and 9 runs, 6 earned while walking 2 and striking out 2. Since then, the Mets have swept the Brewers and started to rebuild confidence. Bartolo will get the start tonight with a 3-3 record over 9 games, 8 starts, with 48.0 innings of work with a 3.75 ERA. His last outing was his shortest of the season, so he’ll be looking to get back at the Nationals personally where he went 4.2 innings, 5 hits with 3 ER while walking 5 batters. He’s had a tough week, he’s had a really tough season.

Yesterday he was looking at a 3-0 count with the bases loaded and one out on a take pitch with a wild pitcher on the mound and he just took a fastball to the right side of centerfield to drive in the winning run, because that’s what captains do. Today the Mets look to beat the Brewers for the third day in a row behind Noah Syndergaard. Syndergaard is 4-2 over 8 starts and 53.1 innings with a 2.19 ERA. In his last three starts he has tossed 21.0 innings with a 1.71 ERA with a 2-1 record and 21 K’s. Last year he allowed 1 ER over 6.0 innings with 5 K’s against the Brewers. The Mets and Brewers will play the second game of their set this afternoon! The Mets were able to squeak by the Brew Crew yesterday thanks to a strong return to the rotation from Steven Matz and a critical, go-ahead 2-run homer from Conforto, who has been receiving criticism in the last week. Jacob deGrom will look to keep it going today. He is 3-1 over 6 starts and 36.0 innings with a 2.50 ERA and 23 K’s. May in general has been more human for deGrom pitching 18.1 innings with a 3.93 ERA and 9 K’s with an 0-1 record. Last year he made two starts against the Brewers going 2-0 allowing only 1 ER over 14.0 innings while striking out 13. The Brewers have the following numbers against Jacob:

Zach Davies is 1-3 over 6 starts this season over 30.2 innings with a 5.58 ERA. He’s almost at the point he was last year in terms of amount pitching. In 2015, his major league debut, he pitched to a 3-2 record over 6 starts with a 3.71 ERA over 34.0 innings, so 2015 was nice than 2016. Things have returned to normal though in May. He’s 1-0 over 17.1 innings with 10 K’s and a 3.12 ERA. He has never faced the Mets before but Neil Walker has seen him (0-3, BB).

Yesterday was a night to forget for the Mets as they couldn’t get anything strong going against Strasburg and Harvey struggled. Alas, today is a new day, and an opportunity for the Mets to get back on the right path against the Brewers as they come to town for their only trip to Citi Field this year.

Steven Matz will get the start tonight, skipped in the rotation last week for elbow issues and an abundance of caution. Reports circulating the last couple of days seem to point to some form of pitch count tonight. He’s 5-1 on the season over 6 starts and 34.2 innings with a 2.86 ERA. However in his last 5 starts he has pitched 33.0 innings with 34 strikeouts while posting a 1.09 ERA. This will be Steven Matz’s first time against the Brewers and no one on the Brewers’ roster has seen Matz as a member of other teams.

The Mets bats draw Wily Peralta who is 2-4 over 8 starts and 40.2 innings with a 7.30 ERA. In the month of May he’s pitched 16.1 innings with a 7.16 ERA and its down. After the first three games of the season he was sitting at 10.12. Last year he had one start against the Mets where he allowed 5 ER over 5.0 innings. Last night seemed like a carbon copy of last year for the Mets with regards to Gio Gonzalez (who has been dominant against the Mets). Coupled with a wild Colon, something we haven’t seen in a while, it was just a bad night for the Amazin’s. However they still get the rubber game tonight with Stephen Strasburg vs Matt Harvey.

Matt Harvey is looking to put his season back together. He’s 3-5 over 8 starts and 45.2 innings with a 4.93 ERA while striking out 41 batters. His last start was potentially the worst of the season and it came on the heals of the best start of the season. On May 8th he went 6.0 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs, while striking out 1-. Then on May 13th he went 5.2 innings, allowing 11 hits and 5 earned runs. Last year Harvey was 2-2 against the Nationals over 6 starts with a 2.31 ERA over 39.0 innings.
