Game Preview: Mets @ Giants

The Mets won another series yesterday with their 2-0 win in Colorado. The Mets, who now have an 8 game lead, will now open up a series with the Giants in San Francisco. When the two teams met up last time in Queens the Giants were 7-2 and only a half game out of first place. The Mets took 3 of 4 games, serving as a statement series for the ball club. The Giants are now 22-18 and have currently lost four games in a row. They know the Mets are hurting right now and will do everything they can to take advantage and reverse their fortunes.

David Peterson gets the start for the Mets this evening. In the majors this year he has pitched four games, three starts, totaling 19 innings with a 1.89 ERA, 3.36 FIP, 1.105 WHIP and a 207 ERA+. His last outing on May 3rd was his roughest so far in the majors this year, allowing four runs, three earned, over five innings against the Braves. Since then he has allowed no runs from seven hits over two starts and 11 innings in the minors. Only two players on the Giants roster have seen Peterson in a major league game before:

  • Kevin Padlo 1-3, 2B, 2 K

The Mets draw the veteran Alex Cobb for the series opener. Over six games and 25 2/3 innings he has a 5.61 ERA, 2.67 FIP, 1.519 WHIP and a 71 ERA+. He is coming off of an incredibly rough start in Colorado that completely blew up his season stats. He allowed seven runs from 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings.
