Minor Notes From Monday, NL East Notes

Gomez! Gomez! Gomez!

The Zephyrs have played 5 games so far, and so far Gomez has hit 3 doubles. He was 2-4 and is still hitting above .400 for the season. To add more speed, Gomez also stole his 4 base in 5 games.

During the Spring, the OF attention was on Milledge and Johnson. For the future there was a lot of attention of FMart. That is not to say that there was no attention on Gomez, but def he did not have a lot of attention. If he keeps playing the way he is, there will soon be a lot more attention on him.

The Bmets dropped their first game of the season. However, that didnt stop Fmart. Fmat started the season going 3-4.

You gotta love the Mets farm system some days.

The NL East is the only division right now in MLB that has 3 teams that have won 5 games already. Part of that, and most of that, is due to the fact that the NL East is also the only divison to have two teams that have only won one game. Even with the latter statement, its an omen that the the next series with the Braves is even more important than ever before. We can pretty much expect them to win their next three, no offense to the Nationals.

Game 7, and some other stuff from today

One thing I remeber a lot from last year is that it always seemed when the other team made a mistake, the Mets would make them pay, a lot. Today's 8th inning was a perfect example of that. 7 runs was huge for a few reasons.

The first being that it demoralizes the Phillies, one mistake leads to 7 runs, not many teams can hit that clutch.

It adds so much moral to the Mets, knowing that they can still score, and get people home after stranding 31 runners in the last series.

The third reason would be that its just fun to watch.

Maine, not so good today, but at least he was controllable. Im hoping that it was just a rough day for Burgos and the rest of the bullpen was fine.

Delgado found his swing, and 19 games in a row for Wright. Just have to keep everything up now.

So, while many of you who read this were at the Mets Opener today, I was at the Orioles Opener. I learned that Steve Traschel gave up Roberts first major league hit. I also got to see Bradford pitch a no-hit, one walk, 1.1 innings.

I still love watching Chad pitch, its so much fun to see that sub style, Bmore hasnt had a thrower like that in a long time, so its good for everyone to see it. People were talking about it in the stands, and parents were teaching their kids about his style of pitching.

Additions that will help and hurt Met Rivals and other NL teams

I can say pretty confidently that the Nationals are not a threat, however, they are a bit more of a threat with D. Young at first base. At least it gives their fans something to cheer about.

R. Soriano on the Braves def. make the Braves much more of a threat because their weak bullpen is a lot stonger. It is a move that cannot be over looked.

Jorge Julio on the Marlins is a move that we should all be praising. He can and already has put a damper on what could be a playoff contender. Not only did he already blow a game this season, but yesterday, he loaded up tbe bases in the ninth in a 2-run game. (and was taken out)

Adam LaRoche on the Pirates. A lot of people say im crazy for thinking the Pirates can win the Central, (which I probably am crazy) but the addition of LaRoche does so much to their lineup up and down. From protection for Bay, to Sanchez (when he gets back) and also makes Nady more important.

Game 5 and Game 6

Frustration.

That is the best way to describe the last two day. Just pure frustration. The wheels from the first four games have not only fallen off, but they cant seem to be found.

Ok, that makes this a little too dark. However the steller defense left yesterday and over the past 3 games, the Mets have left 31 runners on base.

So much for clutch hitting.

Furthermore, for the first time in over a year, the Mets are not in first place.

The Braves are….

On the positive side, the calander says that today's date is 4/08…and that we are 6 games into a 162 game season. So lets just start winning again

Minor League Stars from Last night, Old Frieds

Well just checked in on tonights Minor League Action. For the third straight game, the Bmets are ppd due to snow. Infact, there are an awful lot of games ppd due to snow.

Last night, The zephers lost 3-4, but there were some bright spots. Gomez, who is hitting .429 so far, went 2-4 last night with a double, and rbi and a stolen base.

His clock to shea is counting down now.

Schmol had a hitless inning of work.

The St. Lucie Metswho won 4-0 has a first basemen, Nick Evans, who is hitting .429 and homered last night. He could be one to start watching.

So I'm watching the Orioles beat the Yankees right now, And so far, over 6 innings, Trax has allowed 3 runs…more on his performance when it goes final

Morning Notes: Game 4 and this Afternoon, oh and another weekly power poll

Wow.

That was my reaction during the 8th inning that seemed to never end yesterday. Just wow.

The extra base hits were what made this game amazing. The Mets had Braves pitchers always throwing from the stretch. I also think its to note that if it wasnt for that win, the score would be a lot higher on both ends due to homeruns (but both pitchers would have also pitched differently if the wind was not  blowing in).

There have only been two teams ever (except the Mets) that have started 4-0 and allowed one run or less in each game. By the way, I just heard that it was the first time since 1894 that two NL 3-0 teams met eachother.

The pitching last night was also great. I picked Perez in round 20 of 21 in a draft, and man did he perform last night. Burgos also had a great night at the mound.

Today the Mets send Glavine to the mound agaisnt Smoltz. On TBS last night, Glavine was interviewed saying that the game will be fun for everyone except him and Smoltz (said jokingly).

I guess the what to watch for would be the Mets offense to see if they can keep it up. I expect today that out of the bullpen, the Mets will see Gonzalez or Soriano.

The weekly power poll on MLB.com, the Fab 15, set off their preseason ranking earlier this week, they only rank the top 15 with one extra. The Mets were behind the Phils, at 8, which they never were last year. The Braves were that extra spot. The red sox top the poll.

Another Power Poll, and a letter to the Rockies

Now this Power Poll is different others. This isnt a preseason poll, its a this week poll. The Teams are ranked each week based on the season to tha point. (In the Baltimore Examiner)

And the Mets are ranked….NUMBER 1.

Followed by the Yankees (printed before the Yanks lost yesterday). The comment they gave to the Mets was that they have a loaded lineup and then they talk more about Reyes. They rank the local Orioles at 27, The Phillies, at 10, and the Braves at 18 (Before the sweep, but still, I think based on the first two games they could have ranked the Braves higher, or closer to the Phils.)

And here is a letter to the Rockies, from me, after reading that a newsource said that Rodrigo Lopez should be on the Hot List.

Dear Rockies and your fans,

Hi, I am a Mets fan and also an Orioles fan. For the past several years, I had to deal with Rodrigo Lopez. While you might be happy now, this is all you will get. For the past several Opening Days, Lopez has had an amazing start….and then after that he is just horrible. If only everyday was Opening Day. So have fun for the rest of the Season, because he is done.

Morning Notes: Transplanted Fans TV, Reyes in Bmore Examiner

First off, if you dont live in an area that has SNY, and dont have Direct TV (with the package) and do not have the MLBTV package online, well this weekend is your weekend.

Tonights Game will be on TBS, Tommorows Game will be on FOX (3:30 slog, i.e. game of the day) and Sunday's game will be on TBS

If you are not from Baltimore, you probably have never heard of The Examiner. The Examiner is the free newspaper of Baltimore and the surrounding areas. It is the second daily newspaper in the area.

The article contains nothing earth shattering, and has no quotes. Its a nice half page introduction of Jose Reyes' carear thus far to Baltimorians. It basically talks about his first season and Ricky Henderson, and last season.

The other sad note in the Examiner, is that they rank Cliff Floyd as not hot.

Minor League Stars 4/5/07

First star of the night was the starting pitcher for Port St Lucie, Guerra. Guerra had a few innings in Spring Training, I dont recall how he did. But he was amazing tonight, in the seven inning game, he pitched 5 innings, 2 hits, no walks, no runs and 5 strikeouts…A very good start for the season.

As a team can never have enough pitching, and as Guerro is young (he is 18 or 21, i dont recall), his future is crucial to the organization

Star number 2 also went 5 innings, allowed one run, walked 3 and struck out 4, his name is Humber.

Not the worlds greatest performance, but its def. above average  and def. better than some of his work in the spring.

In the development of Second Base, thru 8 innings, Gotay is 1-4 with a homerun, and A Hernandez has 2 rbi despite going 0-4 so far.

For snow.

Port St Lucie also plays tonight.

Except for some miracle, the Braves have pretty much swept the Phills, the score is 8-1 in the bottom of the fifth…wow
