Numbers Daily: Philles Pen Vs the Pirates

We all know that the Mets Pen struggled against the Pirates, but was it because the Mets or was it because of the Pirates? We all assume the Mets, and for purposes of winning, its best to assume the Mets so we don’t make excuses, but we are not the only NL East team to have recent struggles agaisnt the Pirates in the late innings. Here are the stats for the Phillies over the weekend agaisnt the Pirates:

The Phillies ERA vs the Pirates was a lot worse than the Mets (8.10), and had more earned runs. I’m not complaining when the Phillies do bad.

If you like Art Shamsky, or Baseball in different countries

The Israeli baseball League concluded their season recently.

If you didnt know about the league alltogether, here are some quick notes:

There are 6 teams that make up the league, the vast majority of the league have players that are not from Israel. The league is on the same level as a Single A ball club (I believe some where inbetween A and A advanced). (So in Mets terms between Savanah and Port St Lucie). There are three managers that played baseball in the states. Including Ken Holtzman, Ron Bloomberg (the first DH, and a New York Yankee) and Art Shamsky (1969 NYM).

In the finals, it was the Bet Shemesh Blue Sox (managed by Bloomberg), who defeated the Modim Miracle (managed by Art Shamsky). The score was 3-0.

^ That is the real reason why I am posting it. If you are an Art Shamsky fan, you can get his manager Jersey, with his last name in Hebrew on it.

Good Luck Next year Art

That would make his BA .294

So what would the 2006 Beltran’s stats be over a 9 game period?

During a nine game stretch, in 2006, Beltran would have:

9.000 Hits

2.636 Homers

7.457 RBI’s

6.107 BB’s

In other words, during this hot streak, he is actually performing better than his 2006 averages.

Things that have also been written up and are ready to go: a look at the Mets bullpen vs the nats, Phillies bullpen vs the Pirates, and D-Wright stats brought out for the rest of the season.

Today at the Ballpark

Today I finally made it to a Mets game this season. I ventured down I-95 to get to RFK to see the Mets take on the Nationals, and what a game it was. You can check the boxscores for the numbers, you probably already have, I am more concerned here about my day at the ball park (which was amazing!)

There is very little tail gating at Camden Yards, so it was fun to see all the Mets fans in the lot around RFK.

Walking into the stadium, there were a ton of Mets fans around the dugout, so I went to see what was going on. Tom Glavine was autographing. He is a real class act because he did it for a while, and I got his autograph last year at RFK because he was signing.

The section I was in was nuts. It was 303 (for those at the game) and it was amazing. Some of the most energetic fans were there, like this one guy who kept leading “Jose Jose Jose Jose” and “Lets Go Mets”. We got  booed a lot, but thats because we chanted a lot.

And when we got our tickets for the game, we were behind the Cow-Bell Man, who was also buying his tickets.

MLB.com Fab 15 and other thoughts

This week, in the Fab 15, the Mets dropped from 3 to 6 as the Diamondbacks, Yankees, and Mariners passed them. The braves went from 9 to 8 and the Phillies from 11 to 9.

I can understand the Dbacks and the Mariners, but the Yankees? they just blew two games to the Orioles. Their last 10 record is only one better than the Mets, and the Mets still have a half game on them…We'll see, hopefully there will be another flip soon.

On another note, how annoying is that MLB Dream commerical with Visa. It was nice before but now, whenever there is a game on ESPN, it seems that every commerical break starts with that commericial and its now played on mlb.com now…I will be glad when that is over.

Rickey Henderson Vs Jose Reyes

Henderson is the holder of one of the records that many people believe is impossible to break. With more than a 500 lead over second place, Henderson has over 1400 Stolen Bases, but by age, how is Reyes keeping up?

Henderson at age _ = _ SB

20 = 33
21 = 100
22 = 56
23 = 130
24 = 108

Reyes at age _ = _ SB

20 = 13
21 = 19
22 = 60
23 = 64
24 = 60

So its obvious that Henderson has the advantage here. His rate over the next few years started to decline. Another note is the first 3 years, Henderson played in 89, 158, and 108 games. Reyes played in 69, 53, and 161. Henderson never touched triple digits again after age 24 but he got close a few times

Recap: The Bullpen this Series, Jose Reyes

Its no secret that the Bullpen has been horrible this past series with the Pirates. How bad? Lets find out:

Wednsday: 4.0 IP, 5 ER, 4 H, 1 BB (Wagner 0.2 IP, 0 ER, 1 SO)
Thursday: 3.0 IP, 3 ER, 6 R, 9 H, 1 BB

Errors led to 3 unearned runs from Heilman, but it should be noted that he still allowed 6 hits.

Total IP: 10

That is one ugly stat. Lets buckle down and take on Nationals

Jose Reyes in his last 10 games has 8 SB. Just wanted to share that. (He has 10 on the month so far)

Numbers Daily: Mets SB in August

Its been a while since I've done one of these about stolen bases, so here it goes.

In the first 15 days of August, the Mets have played in 13 games.

Their stolen base totals look like this:

0,1,2,2,4,0,1,0,0,1,2,0,5

That makes a total of 18 SB during that time. Of those 18, 8 of them belong to Jose Reyes.

That makes the SB per game during August (so far) = 1.385
The SB per game for Jose Reyes for the first 15 days of Aug = .615

Amazing
