I wrote about this team once before and I will again. I love the Richmond Flying Squirrels, and I love their hats.
The Mets and Marlins start a series tonight in Miami. As I am writing this before 6 AM. Beltran is still on the team, so if everything holds out today, tonight be one of those rare games where the Mets have Reyes, Beltran and now David Wright. This starts the transition period of responsibility from Beltran to Wright as the inevitable trade of Carlos looms. Anyway, Pelfrey will be pitching for the Mets while Volstad takes the mound for the Marlins.
Pelfrey is 5-9 this season with a 4.69 ERA. His first start after the All-Star break was rough as he pitched 5.0 innings allowing 4 earned runs. On the season he has pitched 11.1 innings against the Marlins with a 4.76 ERA, so essentially his season numbers. The Marlins have the following numbers on Big Pelf:
Ramirez 10-39, HR
Infante 11-20
Dobbs 7-20, 2B, HR
Stanton 4-9, HR, 2B
The Mets will get yet another look at Volstad today who is 5-8 on the season with a 5.59 ERA. In his last start, the first since the All-Star break, he allowed 4 ER in only 3 innings of work. The last time he faced the Mets was last season where he allowed 4 runs, 3 earned over 5 innings. The Mets have the following numbers on Chris:
Murphy 1-10
Beltran 2-4
Reyes 1-6
Wright 4-11, 2 2B
Let's Go Mets!
The second part of the San Francisco Giants World Championship Ring night! Yes, you can buy a hat, that has a gigantic ring logo on the front.

The Mets go for the sweep this afternoon against the Cardinals. Last night the Mets won in dramatic fashion as they hit a walk off shot in the bottom of the 10th off the bat of Angel Pagan. Jon Niese gets the start for the Mets and he is 9-7 with a 3.73 ERA. In the month of July he has pitched 20.1innings with a 3.98 ERA. In his career he is 1-0 in 7.2 innings against the Cubs with an ERA of 1.17. The Cards have the following numbers against him:
Holliday 1-4
Jay 1-4
Molina 0-3
Pujols 1-4, 2B
The Mets bats will go up against Jake Westbrook tonight who is 7-4 this season with a 5.26 ERA. In his last two starts he has pitched a combined 9.1 innings and has allowed 9 ER. Against the Mets last season he pitched 7.0 innings and allowed 5 ER. The Mets have the following numbers on Jake:
Beltran 2-7
Pagan 2-3
Reyes 2-4, 2B
Paulino 0-3
Let's Go Mets!
This the first of a two part series on hats the Giants did the celebrate their World Championship rings. This hat is a little more tame as it is a normal Giants hat with a gold outline:

Another nutty Minor League Baseball Cap:
The Cardinals come to town tonight as the Mets try to bounce back from dropping two straight.Last night the Mets just couldn't get it going against the Marlins in a make up game as they dropped their third of four game since returning to the All-Star break. While things are looking up on the horizon (return of Reyes, Wright) the Mets still need to get through this series.
Dillon Gee gets the nod tonight as he takes his 8-3 record with a 3.76 ERA up against the red birds. July has just been an ugly month for Gee who has pitched 12.2 innings this month and has allowed 9 ER. Gee has not faced the Cardinals as a franchise, nor has he faced any individual batters on the team.
The Mets bats will get a chance to redeem themselves from last night against Kyle Lohse who is 8-6 this season with a 3.32 ERA. He has also struggled in the month of July allowing 12 ER in 12 innings of work. In his career he is 2-3 with a 5.85 ERA against the Mets. The Mets batters have the following numbers on him:
Beltran 20-37. 4 2B, 4 HR (Seriously)
Bay 2-16, 2B, 3B
Paulino 3-7, 2B
Pagan 2-3
Let's Go Mets!
The Rays are known for doing interesting things with their uniforms in order to build team unity and last year it was their “bRAYsers” which led to the matching on-field hats, which you can, of course, purchase.

The Mets and Marlins play a make up game tonight as the Mets try to reverse their fortunes from yesterday. The Mets offense came alive late in yesterday's game, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 8 runs given up by the Mets pitchers for the entire game. Chris Capuano will get the start tonight for the Mets and he is 8-8 this season with a 4.12 ERA. In his last two starts he has pitched 12.0 innings allowing 4 ER (3.00 ERA). Against Florida this year he has only pitched 0.2 innings allowing 1 ER. The Marlins have the following numbers on Capuano:
Ramirez 1-12
Cameron 3-7, 2 HR
Helms 1-7, 2B
Infante 1-4
The Mets will get a look at Clay Hensley tonight who is 0-2 this season with a 3.60 ERA in 20 appearances (15 innings of work total). This is his first start of the season. So far against the Mets this season he has pitched 2 innings and has held them to no runs. The Mets have the following numbers against Clay:
Beltran 2-8, 3B
Bay 3-7, 2B, HR
Pagan 2-7, 2B
Harris 2-4
Let's Go Mets!
This minor league hat is a classic. You probably have seen it before, and I don't really care because it is that awesome.
