Game Preview: Mets @ Giants

The Mets continue their out west road trip tonight with the San Francisco Giants. Last night the Mets got good starting pitching from Dickey and some ninth inning heroics from Scott Hairston as the Mets went on to beat the Giants 5-2 while gaining one spot in the Wild Card race. They will continue their push to relevancy again tonight as they face Tim Lincecum.

Chris Capuano gets the start for the Mets tonight with his 8-7 record and 4.19 ERA. Earlier on this road trip he bounced back nicely from a bad start against Detroit by pitching 6 innings allowing only 2 runs against the Dodgers. He picked up the loss against the Giants earlier this year as he allowed only 2 ER in 6.1 innings of work. The Giants have the following numbers on Chris:

Burrell 4-11, 2B, HR

Huff 5-7, 2B

Ross 3-7, 2B, HR

Rowand 1-5, 2B

Tejada 1-3

The Mets will get their second look at Lincecum this season who is 6-7 with a 3.14 ERA. In the latter half of June, he had an impressive, Lincecum like streak, of 14 innings allowing only one earned run. However his first start in June was a little rough as he allowed 3 ER over 5 innings of work against the Padres. He decimated the Mets the last time he faced this season as he allowed no runs and 5 hits in 7 innings of work while striking out 12 batters. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

Beltran 6-13, 2 2B, HR

Harris 3-13, 2 2B, 3B

Bay 2-7

Pagan 1-7

Murphy 2-5, 2B

Paulino 2-3

The last of the 90's caps comes from the South Side of Chicago where the White Sox are one of a good number of teams that are offering their fans the “Still Anglin' ” hat, complete with a snapback. These names continue to be ridiculous.

The Mets try to bounce back form last night's loss tonight against the San Francisco Giants. Metsmerized Online put this game into perspective earlier this week when they said the Mets would be facing the this year's version of R.A. Dickey in Vogelsong, and it is just a nice coincidence in the baseball world that R.A. Dickey would be the pitcher for the Mets. Dickey is 4-7 this season with a 3.68 ERA. In his last three starts he has pitched 20.0 innings with a 2.25 ERA. He made a pretty terrible start against the Giants earlier this season where he last 6 innings allowing 6 ER. The Giants have the following numbers on Robert Allen:

Tejada 2-11

Ross 3-9

Huff 1-9

Rowand 3-9

The Mets will have to deal with Vogelsong who is having av very strong year. He is 6-1 on the season with a 2.13 ERA. He has been more human in his last two starts where he has pitched 11.2 innings with a 3.86 ERA. One of his worst starts of the season came against the Mets where he allowed 5 ER in only 4 innings of work. The Amazins have the following numbers on him:

Beltran 2-5, 2B, HR

Hairston 2-3

Murphy 0-2

In the second part of 90's hats coming back edition, we look the Dodgers, who are one of the teams offering their fans the “Funky Dopetastic” hat also with a snapback. Seriously, this is the name of the hat.

Game Preview: Mets @ Dodgers

The Mets look for the rare four game road sweep tonight as they take on the Dodgers for the series finale. Last night they were able to beat the Boys in Blue even though they had one of their best pitchers on the mound. Tonight the Mets will look to support Dillon Gee who is 8-2 this season with a 3.47 ERA. Gee is in a bit a rough place in his last three starts as he has allowed 11 earned runs over 17.0 innings of work, so hopefully he will be able to turn that around tonight. Earlier this season he faced the Dodgers where he pitched 5.2 innings allowing only 2 ER. The Dodgers have the following numbers against him:

Miles 1-4

Carroll 3-3, 2B

Ethier 0-2

Kemp 1-2

The Mets bats will look to deal with Kershaw tonight who is 8-4 this season with a 3.23 ERA. He's coming off of a pretty rough start where he he allowed 7 runs, 6 earned in 6 innings of work, so it will be interesting to see how he responds. He was also very effective against the Mets earlier this season when he pitched 6.1 innings allowing only one earned run. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

Hairston 7-16. 2B

Paulino 4-9

Bay 0-6

Beltran 0-4

Today's cap is the first in the series of three caps straight from the 1990's. As the late 80's generation grows up, the one that learned life in the 90's (like me), and start to develop disposable incomes (ok, probably not me), the generation can now buy hats that were popular back when we were kids. Also, hipsters find these hats cool, which probably drives there production.

Today, the Giants are modeling what they call the “Still Breakin' ” hat, with a snapback of course.

The Mets play game three and go for a series win tonight against the Dodgers. The Amazin's have now won three games in a row, three games without Jose Reyes and and are now two games above .500 and last night it was because Jason Bay looked like the Jason Bay we expect him to be. Niese will get the start for the Mets tonight. On the season he is 7-7 with a 3.72 ERA and in his last two games he has pitched 11.2 innings while allowing 5 ER. In his career he has made one start against the Dodgers where he allowed 3 ER in 5.2 innings of work. The Dodgers have the following numbers on Niese:

Miles 1-6

Uribe 0-6

Carrol 0-2

Kemp 2-3

The Mets will have to contend with Kuroda today who is 6-9 on the season with a 2.90 ERA. In his last four starts he has pitched 25.1 innings and has posted an ERA of 1.42. He was dominant against the Mets last season as he allowed only 2 ER in 14 innings against the Mets who have the following numbers against him:

Bay 2-9, HR

Hairston 3-8, HR

Beltran 2-5, 2B, HR

Murphy 2-5, 2 2B

The Minor Leagues can be a bit nutty. Props to the players who wear this cap. It's cool to look at, but they must have to put up with a lot of comments when they go on the road sporting the road version of the below cap:

Do you remember last season in the playoffs the Texas Rangers had that Antler and Claw thing going on in their dugout? Well like any good MLB franchise, the Rangers made sure to capitalize on a team/fan interaction to make money off of it.
