After USA was able to shut the door on Ghana yesterday, the Mets were the Mets of late and just couldn’t get it done against the Cards as they fell 6-2. Tonight Jon Niese will try to get the Mets back on track tonight as he goes up against Michael Wacha.

Jon Niese is 3-3 over 13 starts and 85.0 innings with a 2.54 ERA. In the month of June he has pitched 22.2 innings over 3 games not picking up any decisions with 17 K’s and a 1.99 ERA. Earlier this year he pitched 6.2 innings against the Cards allowing 6 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts with one earned run. The Cardinals have the following numbers against Jon:

  • Molina 5-13, 2B

Earlier this year he picked up a loss against the Mets pitching 4.0 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs, walking 5 and striking out 10 (one of the most bizarre lines against the Mets this year). The Mets have the following numbers against Wacha:

The Mets head off for a road trip tonight to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals tonight. Yesterday they picked up the win after needing the bullpen to pitch 8 innings with Daisuke leaving after the first due to illness. The bullpen held it together and the offense was able to scratch out three runs for a victory. Jacob deGrom will get the start tonight as he goes up against Carlos Martinez.

Jacob deGrom is 0-3 over 6 starts and 36.2 innings with a 3.44 ERA. In the month of June he has made two starts pitching 10.2 innings allowing 7 ER, 4 BB, and 7 K’s. Jacob was not in the majors earlier this season when the Cardinals came to Queens thus deGrom has no major league statistics against the Cardinals.

Carlos Martinez is 0-3 this season over 30 games and 34.2 innings of work while posting a 4.67 ERA. Tonight will be his first start of the season, he made one start in 2013 with 20 relief appearances. Carlos has had very limited time on the mound against the Mets this year recording one out and that’s it. The Mets have the following numbers against Carlos:

  • Wright 0-2
  • Duda 0-1
  • Murphy 0-1

Game Preview: Padres vs Mets

The Mets find themselves in another rubber game today as they take on the Padres. Yesterday the Mets were just not able to find their bats, but at least fans got to see 50 cent after the game. Anyway, today Ian Kennedy takes the mound for the Padres while Daisuke Matsuzaka goes up for the Amazins.

Matsuzaka is 3-0 over 19 games and 3 starts this year pitching 39.2 innings with a 2.95 ERA. He was able to bounce back from his tough start in Chicago with a good start against the Brewers picking up the win after allowing 1 ER over 6.0 innings of work. He has made one career start against the Padres picking up the win after allowing 5 hits and one earned run over 6. Only three current Padres have seen him during a major league game:

  • Quentin 1-7, 2B
  • Smith 5-5, 2B, HR (Really)
  • Headley 1-1

The Mets bats will get a look at the old Yankee prospect and 2011 league leader in wins Ian Kennedy who is 5-7 this year with a 3.63 ERA over 14 starts, 86.2 innings of work and a 3.63 ERA. His last start was the second worst of the season allowing 5 ER to the Phillies over 7.0 innings and in two starts againsst the Mets last year he allowed 7 ER over 13 hits in 11.2 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Ian:

  • Wright 5-13, 2 2B, 2 HR
  • Murphy 2-10, HR
  • Brown 1-7
  • Granderson 1-4
  • Recker 2-5, 2B
  • Tejada 2-5
  • Duda 0-3

Game Preview: Padres vs Mets

The Mets and Padres play game two tonight at Citi Field after the Mets took the opener of the series thanks to some strong pitching from Colon and a 4-4 night from Abreu. Wheeler will be getting the start on Firefighter night (fans with certain tickets can get a Wheeler bobblehead) and on 50 Cent night. So far this season Wheeler is 2-6 with a 4.19 ERA over 73.0 innings of work. His last start against the Giants was the shortest of the season as he pitched 3.2 innings allowing 6 hits and 4 ER, still striking out 6. Before that he had a streak of three games in a row where he allowed 2 ER or less. Last year he made one start against the Padres where he allowed one run and 7 hits over 6 innings of work. The Padres have the following numbers against Zack:

  • Alonso 1-2
  • Denorfia 2-3, 2B
  • Headley 1-3
  • Venable 1-3
  • Rivera 1-2, 3B
  • Ross 1-2

The Mets bats will face off against Hahn who is one start into his rookie season. In his only start he allowed 4 ER over 6 hits and 3.2 innings of work. In the minors this year he pitched 11 games, 8 starts totaling 38.1 innings with a 2-1 record and a 2.11 ERA.

Game Preview: Padres vs Mets

The Mets try to figure things out as the Padres come to town tonight. Last night the Mets lost the rubber game against the Brew Crew after sending the game to the 13th inning on a 1-1 tie. There is only so much you can ask of the bullpen without run support and in the top of the 13th they allowed 4 runs and the Mets could never recover. Tonight Colon takes a turn at the helm as he faces off against Andrew Cashner.

Colon is 5-5 on the season over 12 starts and 77.1 innings with a 4.31 ERA.  In his last four starts he has pitched 28.0 innings with 23 strikeouts and a 1.61 ERA. In his career he has made three starts against the Padres totaling 18.0 innings with a 1.50 ERA. However, most of the current Padres have seen very little of Colon:

  • Quentin 3-4, 2B
  • Alonso 0-1
  • Cabrera 1-1
  • Denorfia 0-1
  • Headley 0-1
  • Maybin 0-1
  • Venable 0-1

The Mets go searching for their bats again tonight against Andrew Cashner who is 2-5 over 10 games and 63.1 innings with a 2.13 ERA. In his last two starts he has pitched 13.0 innings with 11 strikeouts and one earned run. He also faced the Mets in a limited capacity last year allowing 1 hit over 2.2 innings of work. The Mets have the following numbers against him:

  • C Yount 2-5, HR
  • Wright 1-4, HR
  • Duda 0-2
  • Granderson 0-3
  • Murphy 0-2
  • Tejada 0-1

Game Preview: Brewers vs Mets

The Mets bats just couldn’t get it done last night and the Mets fell to the Brewers 3-1 to put themselves in a rubber game situation tonight. Yesterday deGrom allowed 3 ER over 5.2 innings and the bullpen was able to lock it down afterwards. Tonight, Niese will look to put up another strong pitching performance for the Mets and the bats will look to break out against Kyle Lohse.

Jon Niese is 3-3 over 12 games and 77.1 innings with a 2.68 ERA. In his last three starts he has pitched 20.2 innings allowing 6 ER, 2.61 ERA while walking 6 and striking out 11. Last year against the Brewers he allowed 2 ER and 6 hits totaling 6.0 innings while walking 2 and striking out 2. The Brewers have the following numbers against Niese:

  • Ramirez 4-14, 2B, HR
  • Weeks 4-10, 2B, HR
  • Lucroy 5-11
  • Braun 2-7
  • Gomez 2-7

Kyle Lohse is 7-2 this season over 13 starts and 88.0 innings with a 3.27 ERA. His last start is the worst of the season so far as he allowed 8 ER and 9 hits over 5.0 innings. The start before that he allowed 3 hits in a complete game shutout. The Mets have the following numbers against Lohse:

  • Wright 9-21, 2B, 2 HR
  • Granderson 8-17, 2B, 3B, 2 HR
  • C Young 3-17, 3B, HR
  • Abreu 3-10
  • Murphy 0-7
  • Duda 2-4

Game Preview: Brewers vs Mets

The Mets tried something new last night and won a ball game. It’s an odd feeling, but nice, and I hope the Mets try to make it happen again. Anyway, the Mets did it with power last night with Murphy hitting a two run jack and in his first game as a Met, Teagarden smashed a grand slam. Today Peralta will get the start for the Brew Crew as they face deGrom fromt he Mets.

Jacob deGrom is 0-2 this season over 5 starts and 31.0 innings with a 3.19 ERA. His last start against the Cubs was probably the worse of his career as he allowed 4 ER over 5.0 innings of work allowing 3 walks and striking out 3. Before that in his first four starts he struck out 25 batters and allowed 7 runs in 26.0 innings. He has not faced the Brewers or any one their roster in his career.

Wily Peralta is 5-5 over 12 games and a 3.03 ERA while logging 74.1 innings. In his last two starts he has allowed 10 ER over 10.2 innings, 5 BB and 9 K’s. Back in 2012 he had an amazing start against the Mets where he allowed only 2 hits and no earned runs. The Mets have the following numbers against Peralta:

  • Duda 0-3
  • Murphy 0-3
  • Tejada 0-3
  • Wright 0-3

Game Preview: Brewers vs Mets

The Mets come home after a rough road trip. The road trip started off in Philly and they did great winning 4-1 games, but then they lost three in a row in Chicago, and then three in a row again in San Francisco. Anyway, they try to figure it out against the Brewers and Marco Estrada tonight as the Mets send Matsuzaka out to the mound.

Matsuzaka is 2-0 over 18 games and 2 starts this year totaling 33.2 innings with a 3.21 ERA. His last start against Cubs was pretty bad as he allowed 4 hits and 4 earned runs over 4.1 innings while walking 5 batters. He has made one career start against the Brewers allowing 2 runs, none earned, over 6.2 innings. The Brewers have the following numbers against Daisuke:

  • Overbay 7-27, 2 2B, 3 HR
  • Gomez 0-7
  • Braun 2-4
  • Weeks 0-2
  • Reynolds 0-2

Estrada is 5-2 over 12 starts and 73.0 innings while posting a 4.19 ERA. In his last 7 starts he is 3-1 over 41.2 innings while posting a 5.18 ERA. Last year against the Mets he allowed 1 ER and 2 hits over 7.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Marco:

  • Murphy 1-3
  • Wright 0-3
  • Duda 0-3
  • C Young 0-2
  • Tejada 1-1
