The Mets are fresh off a series win in Atlanta and head to Miami to face the fish. Yesterday the Mets got a strong start from Gsellman and several insurance runs in the 9th inning for a strong 5-1 win. Tonight Matt Harvey looks to find some positives in his last couple of starts of the 2017 season.

Harvey is 5-5 over 16 starts and 80.2 innings with a 6.14 ERA, 6.08 FIP and 1.574 WHIP. After an average start against the Reds where he allowed 2 runs from 5 hits and a walk with 5.0 innings he struggled against the Cubs allowing 5 runs from 7 hits and 4 walks in 3.1 innings. In his one start against the Marlins this year he allowed 2 runs, only 1 earned over 6.0 innings from 7 hits and 2 walks. The Marlins have the following numbers against Harvey:

The Mets close out their series in Atlanta today! After dropping the opener with a disappointing 3-2 loss, the Mets bounced back with a 7-3 win last night behind the arm of Jacob deGrom. Now the Mets look to face a familiar foe in Julio Teheran as Robert Gsellman is on the bump for the Amazin’s.

Gsellman is 6-7 over 22 games and 19 starts totaling 101.2 innings with a 5.58 ERA, 5.10 FIP and 1.603 WHIP. He had a decent start on September 6th against the Phillies allowing 3 runs, 2 earned over 6.0 innings but last time out against the Cubs he allowed 4 runs over 4.0 innings from 5 hits and 5 walks in a game the Mets lost 8-3, their smallest margin the entire series. He is 2-1 over 4 games and 3 starts against the Braves this year allowing 11 runs, 10 earned over 16.2 innings. The Braves have the following numbers against him:

Last night was a lack luster night for the Mets as they try to get back on the W column tonight in Atlanta. Montero looked good through 4 innings but couldn’t keep things together in the 5th and the Mets bats just went quiet throughout the night, not able to get hits together in strings. The result – the Mets lost by a run. The most exciting part of the night was hearing that a fan beat the freeze in the race game the Braves play between innings. But tonight the Mets have Jacob deGrom going up against R.A. Dickey, so at least the matchup is more interesting!

Jacob deGrom is 14-9 over 29 games and 188.1 innings with a 3.63 ERA, 3.54 FIP and 1.205 WHIP. He bounced back from a terrible start on September 5th last time out against the Reds allowing only 2 hits from 3 hits and 3 walks in 6.0 innings while striking out 10 batters. He is 1-0 in two starts against the Braves this year allowing 5 runs in 11.0 innings from 10 hits and 6 walks while striking out 11. The Braves have the following numbers against him:

The Mets get to see an old friend in R.A. Dickey, although I’m not sure how many people if any are still on the roster from when Dickey was on the team. Dickey is 9-9 over 28 starts and 170.1 innings with a 4.28 ERA, 4.81 FIP and 1.415 WHIP. September has not been kind to him as he has allowed 12 runs, 11 earned over 9.1 innings in two starts. In his last 5 starts, he has allowed at least 4 runs in four of them. The one start he didn’t was a gem, 8.0 inning outing where he allowed 1 run against the Phillies. The last time he faced the Mets was in back to back starts between April and may where he allowed 6 runs, 5 earned over 11.0 innings from 9 hits and 6 walks. The day after the Mets allowed 17 runs against the Cubs, the Mets did slightly better allowing only 14 runs. It was a frustrating game for the Mets, who were officially eliminated from the Wild Card last night, as Lugo imploded having his worst start of the season and Rosario/d’Arnaud suffered injuries. It just doesn’t stop.

Speaking of things that don’t stop. I have a new love for Montero. I’m hoping that Rafael Montero saves me and keeps me hopeful in these dark nights as he takes the mound. On the season he is 5-9 over 30 games and 15 starts in 101.2 innings with a 5.05 ERA, 4.26 FIP and 1.692 WHIP. In his last start he allowed only 1 run over 5.0 innings with 4 hits and 9 walks. He had one bad start stretching all the way back to August 14th. He has pitched only 1.2 innings against the Braves this season where he allowed 2 runs from 3 hits and 3 walks. The Braves have the following numbers against Montero:

The Mets bats will take a look at Sean Newcomb who is 2-8 over 16 starts and 84.1 innings with a 4.38 ERA, 4.60 FIP and 1.613 WHIP. In his last three starts he has tossed 14.2 innings allowing 10 hits and 8 walks leading to a 5.52 ERA and an opponent OBP of .419. He hasn’t faced the Mets since his major league debut this season where he allowed 1 run, not earned, over 6.1 innings with 4 hits and 2 walks. The Mets have the following numbers against Sean:

I tried to see the Mets on 7/5/17 but the weather wouldn’t have it. After about an hour and 45 minutes, the grounds crew tried push the water off the tarp but it was still raining and they had about half the people they needed to accomplish the task.

Last night was a night to forget for Mets pitching who gave up 17 runs against the Cubs. Harvey allowed 5 runs over 3.1 innings, then Bradford allowed 4 runs in 1.0 inning, then Rhame allowed 5 runs in 0.1 innings and finally Callahan allowed 2 runs in 0.2 innings. Just not a good night. The Mets will turn to Seth Lugo for stability tonight.

Seth Lugo is 6-4 over 15 games and 14 starts with 83.1 innings of work. He has posted a 4.64 ERA, 4.00 FIP and 1.392 WHIP. Last start was his first start all season where he shut an opponent out, going 6.0 scoreless innings against the Reds allowing 4 hits and a walk. The last time he faced the Cubs was in 2016 where he made his major league debut in relief against them and pitched against them again 2.5 weeks later. In those two outings he allowed 2 hits over 4.0 innings with no runs. The Cubs have the following numbers against him:

• Baez 1-2
• Bryant 0-2
• Martin 1-2, HR

The Mets bats will face the minor league pitcher of the year for the Cubs, Jen-Ho Tseng, in his major league debut. The almost 23 year old from Taipei made his professional debut in the Midwest league at age 19. This season he is 13-4 over 24 games with a 2.54 ERA and a 1.135 WHIP over 145.1 innings from AAA and AA. He dominated at AAA going 6-1 over 9 starts with a 2.45 ERA. This looks even better when compared to his 2016 season where he posted a 4.29 ERA / 5.32 RAvg in AA.
