The Mets and Brewers conclude their series tonight with a 7 inning night cap. Injuries continue for the Mets who last week lost both David Peterson and Sean Reid-Foley due to injury. Yesterday the Mets announced that Corey Oswalt, who was pitching great for the Mets, had knee inflammation and was heading to the IL, being replaced by Robert Stock who (at the time of writing this article) is the probable starter for the Mets.
You probably remember Robert Stock from his start against the Mets and Jacob deGrom in the middle of June. The Mets tagged him for 5 runs from 4 hits and 6 walks over 4.0 innings in a game that deGrom left due to injury. He has made two starts in Syracuse as a Met with a 4.15 ERA over 8.2 innings, which is at the same level as his 4.12 ERA over 19.2 innings with the Cubs Triple A team earlier this year. In an earlier article before his June 16th start against the Mets, we noted how he has a sense of humor – interacting with fans on Twitter and sporting a Twitter profile picture that uses MS paint to show his current team. He throws upper 90’s and into the 100’s with a fastball that he struggles to control. The Mets need arms right now – here’s hoping they can count on his tonight.
The Mets bats draw Brett Anderson tonight who has made 12 starts and pitched 48.0 innings this year with a 4.69 ERA, 4.83 FIP, 1.458 WHIP and an 88 ERA+. He had his best start of the season on June 15th where he allowed 1 hit and a walk over with no runs over 7.0 innings against the Brewers. He followed that up with a 1.1 inning performance in Arizona where he allowed 3 runs from 5 hits. In the month of June, including that excellent start, he has a 5.74 ERA over 4 starts and 15.2 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against him:
- Jose Peraza 4-4, BB
- Kevin Pillar 3-6, 2 2B
- Jonathan Villar 3-16, HR, 3 K
- Francisco Lindor 2-9, 2B, K
- Billy McKinney 0-1
- James McCann 0-9, 2 K
Let’s Go Mets!
