Game Preview: Dodgers vs Mets

Last night’s Mets / Dodgers bout was back and forth for a while, until the Mets bullpen came in and promptly gave up 6 runs. It was the first difficult outing for the pen in a while, and if you take that inning out of the game, the Mets won! Except all the innings count and the Mets lost. So they look to get back in the win column tonight with Steven Matz.

Matz is 3-3 over 9 starts and 44.2 innings posting a 3.63 ERA, 4.65 FIP, 1.366 WHIP and 110 ERA+. He’s coming off a strong start allowing 1 run over 6.0 innings against the Nationals and overall in his last 5 starts he has a 2.86 ERA over 28.1 innings. The only disturbing trend over those starts: opponents are batting .288 against him. The last time he faced the Dodgers was back in 2017 where he saw them twice allowing 8 runs over 11.1 innings. The Dodgers have the following numbers against him:

The Mets draw Rich Hill who is having his best season since 2016. In 5 starts he has a 2.67 ERA, 4.48 FIP, 1.074 WHIP and 157 ERA+. In his last two starts he has allowed 1 run over 12.0 innings. His numbers against the Mets last year are similar to Matz’s numbers against the Dodgers in 2017. In 2018, Hill allowed 8 runs off 12 hits and 2 walks in 11.0 innings against the Mets. The Mets have the following individual lines against him:
