Game Preview: Marlins vs Mets

The Mets return to Queens tonight after a rough road trip that didn’t see a lot of winning baseball, saw a lot of errors and only a few moments of relief that the team is going to put it all together. The road trip has left the Mets 3 games under .500 but they get just what they need tonight, a three game set with the Marlins!

Zack Wheeler is 2-2 over 7 games and 42.2 innings with a 4.64 ERA, 3.11 FIP, 1.336 WHIP and 84 ERA+. His FIP is now lower than any other season. He is coming off a strong start allowing only 2 runs over 7.0 innings to the Brewers, which was his 2nd strong start in his last 3, or his 3rd in his last 5. Since starting the season with back to back starts that left him with a 10.24 ERA, he has a 3.00 over his 5 games and 33.0 innings. He was very good against the Marlins last year going 3-1 in as many starts posting a 1.29 ERA over 28.0 innings striking out 31. The Marlins have the following numbers against him:

The Mets draw the young starter Pablo Lopez tonight who is 2-4 over 7 starts and 38.0 innings with a 4.03 ERA, 2.79 FIP, 1.079 WHIP and 97 ERA+. Similar to Wheeler, he is also coming off a strong start, holding the Braves scoreless over 6.0 innings, which was his 2nd strong start in his last three. Pablo started against the Mets last year holding the Amazin’s to 2 runs over 6.0 innings from 6 hits and a walk. The Mets have the following numbers against him:
