Game Preview: Mets @ Dodgers

Full Disclosure: I’m wrote this game preview on July 2nd, so it is possible something has changed since then, or not, whatever. Imagine this game preview then as previewing a Mets game in another universe.

Steven Matz had the debut of a lifetime last Sunday. The Long Island native, who grew up a Mets fan, tossed 7.2 innings of 2 run ball where he walked 3 batters and struck out 6. He started off the game allowing a leadoff homerun and allowed a homer later in the game but besides that there was very little hit hard against Matz. He also raked at the plate going 3-3 with a double and 4 RBI’s. No Met ever, position player or pitcher, had 4 RBI’s in their major league debut and he was the first pitcher to do that in the history of the league since RBI’s became a recorded statistic. Obviously this is Matz’s first game against the Dodgers, so there are no major league stats against the batters and him.

The Mets bats draw Mike Bolsinger who is 4-2 over 11 games and 62.0 innings with a 2.76 ERA. In his last two starts he has tossed a combined 8.2 innings with 2 ER while striking out 10. He faced the Mets once last year where he allowed 2 ER over 3.0 innings and 6 hits. The Mets have the following numbers against Mike:

  • Duda 2-2
  • Lagares 0-2
  • Murphy 1-2
  • Tejada 0-2
  • Granderson 1-1

Lets Go Mets!
